Helping Hands Ministry
We are a group of volunteers who assist elderly parishioners in need in various ways.
The Helping Hands Ministry began because of the increased number of people who consistently reached out to our parish office for assistance for their various needs. The majority of calls came from poor, homebound and desperately elderly people without spouses or family members. The requests were more than our parish ministries, such as St. Vincent de Paul or Legion of Mary could provide.
With persistence and compassionate support of former pastor, Fr. James McAteer, this ministry was realized and our present pastor, Fr. Bruce King happily continues to endorse it.
The parishioners in need have various requests with which volunteers can help:
some need groceries brought to them
some enjoy grocery shopping with the volunteer
bi-weekly banking needs
read to them
short visit now and then
Perhaps God is calling you to this ministry. The following steps will put you on your way to becoming a special angel for our elderly parishioners in need.
1. Must be a parishioner at St. Theresa.
2. Have a valid driver's license and proof of insurance
3. Have a reliable car.
4. Complete Diocesan "Safe Environment for Adults" Program
Please be aware that there is no charge for this service. It is strictly a volunteer ministry.
